Saturated fats are a necessary part of a good, healthy diet. They assist the body in its optimum performance of basic functions.

In a report by the Daily Telegraph (Sydney 5/11/09), obesity was highlighted as a major problem with teenage girls. The "muffin top," which refers to the roll of fat sitting above the jeans, is becoming prevalent and is a concern "as they are setting themselves up to be overweight adults."

Exercise and healthy diets are solutions to the obesity problem, but what is the truth of what makes up a healthy diet? Much of the recommended food, such as wheat products and poly and mono-unsaturated fats, are coming from the research of mega-companies selling margarine, oils and wheat products.

Reducing Weight with Saturated Fats

Contrary to the worldwide current medical trend for diets, fats from meat, dairy and other whole foods should not be avoided and are necessary for the vital organs in the body. It is refined and processed food, high in chemicals that make the body fat and sick.

In the book Eat Fat Lose Fat, Sally Fallon states that saturated fats promote “sustainable weight loss. Studies conducted in the past three years have found a moderately high–fat diet to be more beneficial than low-fat diets in terms of adherence weight loss and weight maintenance, while also reducing cardiovascular risk factors.”

Healthy Fats

Including healthy fats in the diet helps to lose weight, increase energy, boost the immunity to illness and optimizes the digestion.

Healthy fats include:

  • Omega-3 fatty acids found in cod liver oil, egg yolks, flax oil
  • medium-chain fats found in coconut oil, palm kernel oil and butter
  • long-chain saturated fats are found mostly in dairy and meat products

The media is constantly bombarding information on what is right or wrong to eat. It changes regularly; however, bodies have not changed and what a body needs for optimum performance is the same as it ever has. A well balanced diet will contain proteins, carbohydrates, vegetables and fats. The saturated fats found in whole food assists the body in its digestion, and when the body can process all food there is no excess weight.

Valuing a Healthy Liver

Dr Sandra Cabot brought liver consciousness to thousands of people in Australia through her book The Liver Cleansing Diet. "People who had struggled for years with excessive weight and chronic health problems found that the liver was the missing part in the jig-saw puzzle to acheive good health."

The process used in refining food for ease of selling, promoting and preparation strips the goodness away and the chemicals that replace the goodness are difficult to digest. Any product that is bleached white such as bread, rice, pasta etc cannot be digested by the liver properly and ends up building around the liver, which results in a poor functioning liver, and a domino effect of the other organs.
